DME HS National Falls Short to Gulliver Prep
On Friday night, DME Sports Academy’s High School National Team traveled to Miami to face Gulliver Prep, in an exciting overtime thriller.
Senior small forward Calvin Freeman II had a season-high of 20 points and 8 rebounds, but DME HS National fell short, 83-80, Friday night to Gulliver.
After trailing by 9 points at halftime, 44-35, DME fought back to cut the lead down to one, 51-50, with 2:30 left in the third quarter. DME got great production out of the junior PG Deandre Harvey finished with 15 points and 3 assists.
Calving Freeman had a big fourth quarter, scoring 10 of his 20 points in the fourth, also shooting 8-8 from the free-throw line. Following a huge three-pointer by senior Mame Niang to tie the game at 73 with 21 seconds left. Freeman sent the game into overtime with a huge block on Gulliver Preps last possession.
In overtime, Gulliver Prep raced out to a lead but the lead was cut to two after Freeman made a layup with 0:49 left.
DME would get a chance to tie the game on the final possession but Niang who finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds, three-pointer fell short at the buzzer and Gulliver Prep prevailed in a nailbiter 83-80 behind a career night from sophomore star Jamal Mashburn Jr.
